Hundred Studio is now a certified B Corp™.
Being able to write that sentence took us 18 months. It’s an incredible achievement, and we’re exceptionally proud to get it. As a studio of three people, it’s tough to meet the rigorous standards of B Corp and to have done it as one of the first in the country (we see you Big+Bold!), we’re all made up.
You’re probably wondering why go to all the bother. It’s an excellent question.
There’s no guarantee that this will turn into increased revenue or more publicity, but that’s not why we did it. We’re a small studio that does agile projects. If our goal was to run a massive business, we’ve done a pretty terrible job.
We want to be the most creative studio around. That’s our aim. We also believe it’s important to care about what we do and why we do it. Otherwise, to be totally honest, the stress wouldn’t be worth it. Ultimately, we have a pretty simple outlook on this;
There’s no point in running a business that doesn’t care.
We’ve always wanted to think about our impact. It’s why we were the first in the country to join 1% For The Planet, it’s why we want to make sure the studio is a great place to work, and it’s why we decide who and what kind of work we do. Increasing revenue at any cost is an exercise that just doesn’t interest us.
So we decided to do the B Corp Assessment. We partnered with Eccountinc (local B Leaders) to help us with the process and we couldn’t recommend them highly enough. From tracking our energy use to measuring the distance of our suppliers from the studio (avoiding the tape measure), it’s a strenuous process that’s supposed to be difficult. There are 5.6 million businesses in the UK, but only 8,400 B Corps (April 2024). Only around 1 in 30 companies who register with the B Impact Assessment will certify as B Corps. To put it short, it’s not an easy thing to do.
But we’re in great company. Our friends at Big+Bold have recently certified and we know loads of others are getting on board. The more that take part, the better off we all are in the long term.
That’s what it’s all about – long term improvement in a measurable, meaningful way.
For now, we’ll be toasting to the hard work that got us here and keeps us going.
